Phentermine brand names: Adipex-P, Fastin, Ionamin, Obenix, Obephen, Oby-Cap, Oby-Trim, Panshape M, Phentercot, Phentride, Pro-Fast HS, Pro-Fast SA, Pro-Fast SR, Teramine, Zantryl

Phentermine is a stimulant that is similar to an amphetamine. Phentermine is an appetite suppressant that affects the central nervous system.

Phentermine is used togther with diet and exercise to treat obesity (overweight) in people with risk factors such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or diabetes.

Phentermine may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.

Before taking phentermine, tell your doctor if you are using any of the following drugs:

medicines to treat high blood pressure;

insulin or diabetes medication you take by mouth;

guanadrel (Hylorel), guanethidine (Ismelin);

antidepressants such as citalopram (Celexa), escitalopram (Lexapro), fluoxetine (Prozac, Sarafem), fluvoxamine (Luvox), paroxetine (Paxil), or sertraline (Zoloft); or

antidepressants such as amitriptyline (Elavil, Etrafon), amoxapine (Ascendin), clomipramine (Anafranil), desipramine (Norpramin), doxepin (Sinequan), imipramine (Janimine, Tofranil), nortriptyline (Pamelor), protriptyline (Vivactil), or trimipramine (Surmontil).

How should I take phentermine?
Take this medication exactly as it was prescribed for you. Do not take the medication in larger amounts, or take it for longer than recommended by your doctor. Follow the directions on your prescription label.

Taking high doses of phentermine over long periods of time can cause severe skin problems, sleep problems (insomnia), personality changes, and feeling hyperactive or irritable. Take this medicine with a full glass of water. It is best to take phentermine on an empty stomach before breakfast, or at least 10 to 14 hours before bedtime.Phentermine should be taken only for a short time, such as a few weeks.

Do not crush, chew, break, or open an extended-release capsule. Swallow the pill whole. It is specially made to release medicine slowly in the body. Breaking or opening the pill would cause too much of the drug to be released at one time.You may have withdrawal symptoms when you stop using phentermine after using it over a long period of time. Do not stop using this medication suddenly without first talking to your doctor. You may need to use less and less before you stop the medication completely.

Do not take phentermine in the evening because it may cause sleep problems (insomnia).

Stop taking phentermine if you have increased hunger or if you otherwise think the medication is not working properly. Do not take more phentermine for an increased effect. Taking too much of this medication can cause serious, life-threatening side effects.

Phentermine may be habit-forming and should be used only by the person it was prescribed for. Keep track of how many pills have been used from each new bottle of this medicine. Phentermine is a drug of abuse and you should be aware if any person in the household is using this medicine improperly or without a prescription. Store phentermine at room temperature away from moisture and heat.

What happens if I miss a dose?
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the medicine at your next regularly scheduled time. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.

What happens if I overdose?
Seek emergency medical attention if you think you have used too much of this medication. An overdose of phentermine can be fatal.Symptoms of a phentermine overdose may include confusion, hallucinations, feeling restless or aggressive, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, irregular heartbeat, tremors, rapid breathing, confusion, hallucinations, feeling light-headed, fainting, or seizure (convulsions).

What should I avoid while taking phentermine?
Avoid drinking alcohol. It can increase some of the side effects of phentermine. Phentermine can cause side effects that may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert.

Phentermine side effects

Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Stop using phentermine and call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects:

chest pain, swelling in your ankles or feet, feeling light-headed, fainting, or feeling short of breath, even with mild exertion;

fast or uneven heartbeat;

unusual thoughts or behavior, feeling restless or confused; or

increased blood pressure (severe headache, blurred vision, trouble concentrating, chest pain, numbness, seizure).

Less serious side effects may be more likely to occur, such as:

feeling nervous or anxious;

headache, dizziness, tremors;

trouble sleeping (insomnia);

dry mouth or an unpleasant taste in your mouth;

diarrhea or constipation; or

itching.

Generic name of Valium — Diazepam

Diazepam first marketed as Valium by Hoffmann-La Roche, is a drug which is a benzodiazepine derivative. It possesses anxiolytic, anticonvulsant, sedative, skeletal muscle relaxant and amnestic properties. This makes it a useful drug for treating anxiety, insomnia, seizures, alcohol withdrawal, and muscle spasms. It is also used before certain medical procedures (such as endoscopies) to reduce tension and anxiety, and in some surgical procedures to induce amnesia.

Diazepam can be administered orally, intravenously, intramuscularly, or as a suppository.

When diazepam is administered orally, it is rapidly absorbed and has a fast onset of action. The onset of action is 1-5 minutes for IV administration and 15-30 minutes for IM administration. The duration of the diazepam’s main pharmacological effects is 15 minutes to 1 hour for both routes of administration.

Peak plasma levels are achieved 30 minutes to 2 hours after oral administration. When diazepam is administered as an intramuscular injection, absorption is slow, erratic and incomplete.

Diazepam is highly lipid-soluble, and is widely distributed throughout the body after administration. It easily crosses both the blood-brain barrier and the placenta, and is excreted into breast milk. After absorption, diazepam is redistributed into muscle and adipose tissue. Continual daily doses of diazepam will quickly build up to a high concentration in the body (mainly in adipose tissue), which will be far in excess of the actual dose for any given day.

There is preferential storage of diazepam in some organs including the heart. Absortion by any administered route and the risk of accumulation is significantly increased in the neonate and there are clinical justification to recommend the withdrawal of diazepam during pregnancy and breast feeding.

Diazepam is metabolised in the liver via the cytochrome P450 enzyme system. It has a biphasic half-life of 1-2 and 2-5 days, and has several pharmacologically active metabolites. The main active metabolite of diazepam is desmethyldiazepam (also known as nordazepam or nordiazepam). Diazepam’s other active metabolites include temazepam and oxazepam. These metabolites are conjugated with glucuronide, and are excreted primarily in the urine. Because of these active metabolites, the serum values of diazepam alone are not useful in predicting the effects of the drug.

Diazepam has a half-life (t1/2?) of 20-50 hours, and desmethyldiazepam has a half-life of 30-200 hours.

Most of the drug is metabolised; very little diazepam is excreted unchanged.

In humans, the protein binding of diazepam is around 98.5%.

Alprazolam is a short-acting drug in the benzodiazepine class used to treat anxiety disorders and as an adjunctive treatment for depression. It is also used as a medication to aid the beginning of treatment with SSRI type drugs, since these can cause anxiety in the initial stages of use.

Alprazolam was first synthesized by Upjohn (now a part of Pfizer) and is marketed under various trade names.

What To Tell Your Doctor

The best way for you to prepare for treatment is to help your doctor understand your complete medical history and the specific issues you’re having with this disorder.

Some Medications Don’t “Mix Well”
To guard against counterproductive or dangerous drug interactions, tell your doctor what medications you’re currently taking (or have recently taken), including any over-the-counter or illegal drugs. Some medications don’t “mix well” with other drugs and can lead to harmful interactions. In fact, some drugs that are prescribed for a variety of anxiety disorders can be dangerous when mixed with alcohol, certain foods, or other medications.

A Complete History Is Important
You play an important part in your treatment by being honest and thorough with the information you give your doctor. Your complete “history” not only includes medical problems but other lifestyle issues as well. These may include eating habits, family history, and drug/alcohol history. If you’ve had a previous anxiety disorder problem, make it known. You should always tell your doctor what problems you’ve had previously—be it physical or mental. If there’s something you think your doctor should know, say it. For example, if you (or a blood relative) have had a bad reaction to a certain type of medication in the past, make sure your doctor knows what it is.

Preparing For Your Doctor’s Visit
To help you prepare for your doctor’s visit, we’ve created a document that will help you to record some health and lifestyle information your physician may need for diagnosing your illness.

Xanax web-site

Put yourself in the following situation: You’re speeding along a highway when suddenly a deer crosses in front of you. You pull the steering wheel hard trying to avoid the animal. The car swerves and spins off into the emergency lane and you skid to a stop. Somehow you’ve manage to avoid a potentially fatal accident—for both you and the deer.

You’re shaking, you’re heart is racing, and you’ve broken out into a quick and cold sweat. But you’re alive! This would be the normal reaction for most people in a similar situation.

Now imagine this: You’re at a restaurant having a quiet dinner when suddenly, for no apparent reason, you experience the same uneasy feelings. You begin shaking, your heart starts racing, and you break out into a cold sweat. You even feel like you might be having a heart attack. You’re rushed to the hospital and the doctors can find nothing immediately wrong with you.

What has happened?
Quite possibly you may have experienced a “panic attack”—and a few of the typical symptoms usually associated with Panic Disorder.

Panic Disorder is characterized by unexpected and repeated episodes of intense fear accompanied by physical symptoms that may include chest pain*, heart palpitations, shortness of breath, dizziness, or abdominal distress.

A panic attack seems to come out of nowhere—at times and in places where there is nothing to fear. When experiencing the effects of the attack, you may think you’re having a heart attack, dying, or even going crazy. But in reality, there is nothing wrong with your heart—or your sanity. You’re simply one of the millions who suffer from this frightening and debilitating disorder.

What Is Agoraphobia?
Some Panic Disorder suffers also have “agoraphobia.”

Agoraphobia is an anxiety—or a fear—of being in places or situations from which escape might be difficult (or embarrassing) or in which help may not be available in the event of having a Panic Attack or panic-like symptoms (for example, fear of having a sudden attack of dizziness or a sudden attack of diarrhea). Some people with agoraphobia may fear being outside the home alone; being in a crowd or standing in a line; being on a bridge; or traveling in a bus, train, or car.1

Situations like these may be avoided or else they’re dreaded—and then endured. Typically this means staying away from places or circumstances where previous experiences have happened. Obviously, having such a “fear of the fear” can make normal everyday life impossible.

*Until you have been diagnosed by your physician as having Panic Disorder, you should always seek medical attention for chest pain or discomfort.

At one time, Panic Disorder was believed to have stemmed from “psychological problems.” Researchers now believe however that Panic Disorder is a real and treatable medical illness caused by a combination of biological, psychological, and environmental factors. It is a disorder that can also sometimes be accompanied by depression.

Contrary to an older, common belief, Panic Disorder is not due to a “character flaw” or “character weakness.” Panic Disorder is a real medical illness that is treatable.

Biologically, it appears that emotional memories stored in specific parts of the brain may play a role in disorders involving very distinct fears, like phobias, while other parts may be involved in other forms of anxiety.

Some researchers suggest that Panic Disorder may be caused by an imbalance of specific chemicals in the brain. Three of these chemicals are called norepinephrine, GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid), and serotonin. It is believed that changes in the levels of these chemicals play a role in anxiety disorder.

Panic Disorder appears to run in families and is more common in women than in men. Genetic factors or changes in body chemistry, combined with stress, may also play an important role. Certain illnesses, drugs, and certain social situations—or even substances like caffeine—may also contribute to triggering attacks.

The Most Common Symptoms

Few sufferers experience all of the dozen or more physical or emotional sensations that accompany a panic attack. Although panic attacks vary with the individual, doctors define an “attack” when it has at least four of the following common symptoms:

heart palpitations

sweating

trembling

shortness of breath

choking

chest pain*

nausea

faintness/dizziness

feelings of “unreality”

feeling like you’re “going crazy” or “losing control”

fear of dying

chills or hot flushes

numbness or tingling sensations

It’s Not “Just Nerves”
Panic Disorder is regarded as one of the great impostors of medicine because its symptoms are sometimes like those associated with heart attacks, some respiratory illnesses, and even thyroid diseases.

Many sufferers have been rushed to a hospital only to be told that there is “nothing wrong with them.” This sometimes happens because the attending physician may be unfamiliar with Panic Disorder and may not be properly diagnosing their condition. Unfortunately, for the individuals who may feel (or have been told) that “it’s just nerves,” it sometimes takes years for sufferers to be properly diagnosed.

*Until you have been diagnosed by your physician as having Panic Disorder, you should always seek medical attention for chest pain or discomfort.

According to the National Institute of Mental Health (in 1999), approximately 2.4 million Americans ages 18 to 54, suffer from Panic Disorder in a given year.1 That’s about 1.7% of the adult US population. About one third of those develop “agoraphobia”—fear of being in public places. And just like Generalized Anxiety Disorder, women are twice as likely as men to develop Panic Disorder.

Panic Disorder typically strikes in young adulthood, beginning in the late teen years or early to mid twenties. About half of all people who have Panic Disorder develop it before the age of 24. Although in most cases a panic attack is spontaneous and unexpected, sometimes, but not always, a stressful event, such as a divorce or death of a parent, can also trigger an attack.

There is good news for people suffering from Panic Disorder. Appropriate treatment by an experienced healthcare professional can reduce or even prevent panic attacks in most people with Panic Disorder.The two most widely used treatments for Panic Disorder involve medication and psychotherapy. Most patients show significant progress after just a few weeks of therapy. Recovery may occur in a matter of months, but can take longer depending on individual circumstances. While relapses may occur, they can often be as effectively treated as the first episodes.

If you suspect that you may have Panic Disorder, see your doctor first to get a proper diagnosis. Once a proper course of treatment has been determined, there are additional resources available to you that may help you through this illness. Joining a support group in which you’ll hear other individuals’ stories about their personal experiences can be a tremendous source of comfort for some people affected by this disorder.

What Not To Do
Never “self-medicate.” Don’t take medications that have been prescribed for other patients. Only specially trained healthcare professionals have the proper knowledge and training to know what medications and therapies are right for you.

Some individuals, who haven’t been properly diagnosed or who refuse to acknowledge that they have a problem, try to avoid the issues surrounding this disorder through alcohol consumption or by taking illegal drugs. According to The National Institute of Mental Health, 36 percent of people with Panic Disorder also have substance abuse problems.

Panic Disorder is a truly frightening illness. But you don’t have to plan your life around the fear that another attack may hit you at any moment. Effective treatment is available. Talk to your doctor or a specialist near you.

As is the case with Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), there is no single magic bullet for overcoming Panic Disorder. Frequently, specialists use a combination of treatment approaches.

Therapy for Panic Disorder can sometimes take a long time, but not necessarily by using medication. The most successful courses of treatment revolve around behavior therapy, cognitive therapy, and medication. Behavior therapy usually includes breathing retraining, relaxation techniques, and exposure therapy. Also important for many sufferers are support groups. Just knowing that “you’re not alone” can, in itself, be very therapeutic.

The exact course of therapy your physician chooses will depend on the individual’s needs and will also take into account any surrounding issues such as depression or any alcohol/drug problems.

Generic name of Premarin — Conjugated Estrogens

Common uses

This medicine is a female hormone and is usually given to women who no longer produce the proper amount. It is used to reduce menopause symptoms (e.g., vaginal dryness).

Before using

Warning: estrogens have been reported to increase the chance of womb (endometrial) cancer in women who have been through menopause, especially in women with a uterus who receive estrogen-only hormone therapy. Estrogens may also increase the risk of cancer of the ovary/breast. Estrogen-containing medicines should not be used to prevent heart disease. Estrogen given in combination with another hormone (progestin) for replacement therapy can infrequently cause heart disease (e.g., heart attacks), stroke, serious blood clots, and cancer of the breast. These risks appear to depend on the length of time this medicine is used and the amount of estrogen per dose. Therefore, this medicine should be used for the shortest possible length of time at the lowest effective dose, so you obtain the benefits and minimize the chance of serious side effects from long-term treatment.

If you use this medicine for an extended period, you should be evaluated at least once yearly (see cautions section). This medicine is not effective in preventing/treating a tendency toward miscarriages nor the threat of miscarriage. This medicine must not be used during pregnancy because its use may result in birth defects or cancer later in the child’s life (see cautions section).

Additional monitoring of your dose or condition may be needed if you are using other vaginal medicines. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions including a family medical history (e.g., especially breast lumps/cancer), asthma, diabetes, seizures, migraine headaches, liver or kidney disease, heart disease (e.g., high blood pressure, heart attacks, congestive heart failure), low thyroid hormone (hypothyroidism), abnormal calcium level in the blood, depression, high blood pressure during pregnancy, yellowing of eyes/skin during pregnancy or with past estrogen use, womb problems (e.g., uterine fibroids/endometriosis), cholesterol/lipid problems, gallbladder disease, excessive weight gain, certain blood disorder (porphyria), allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding.

Use of this medicine is not recommended if you have certain medical conditions including undiagnosed abnormal vaginal bleeding, certain cancers (e.g., breast cancer, especially non-metastatic type), blood clots, or active/recent stroke or heart attack. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking this medicine.

Directions

Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. This medicine comes with a patient leaflet. Read it carefully. Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist any questions you may have about this medicine. Fill the applicator with the medicine according to the directions. Insert the applicator high into the vagina and press the plunger to release the medicine. Clean the applicator with warm soapy water and rinse well. Do not boil or use hot water to clean the applicator. Follow your dosing schedule closely. It is best to schedule each dose about the same time of the day.

Store this medicine at room temperature 77 degrees f (25 degrees c), away from heat, moisture, and light. If you miss a dose of this medicine, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not use 2 doses at once.

Cautions

Keep all doctor and laboratory appointments while you are using this medicine. You should have a complete physical examination, including blood pressure measurements, breast and pelvic examinations, and a pap test (for vaginal cancer), at least once a year. You should also have periodic mammograms as determined by your doctor. Follow your doctor’s instructions for examining your own breasts, and report any lumps immediately.

This medicine may alter certain lab results. Make sure laboratory personnel and your doctors know that you are using this medicine. If you will be having surgery or will be confined to a chair or bed for a long period of time (e.g., a long plane flight), notify your doctor beforehand. Special precautions may need to be taken in these circumstances while you are taking this medicine.

This medicine may cause dizziness. Do not drive, operate machinery, or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how you react to this medicine. Using this medicine alone, with other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or to perform other potentially dangerous tasks. Limit alcoholic beverages while using this medicine.

This medicine may cause a patchy darkening of the skin on the face (melasma). Sunlight may intensify this darkening and you may need to avoid prolonged sun exposure and sunlamps. Consult your doctor regarding use of sunscreens and protective clothing. Cigarette smoking can increase the chance of blood clots while taking this medicine (especially in women over the age of 35). This medicine can weaken and lead to failure of latex condoms. Consult your doctor about the use of condoms and other vaginal products while using this medicine.

Generic name of Xenical — Orlistat

Drug Uses

Xenical is used to help obese people who fit certain weight and height requirements lose weight and maintain weight loss. Xenical works in your intestines, where it blocks some of the fat you eat from being absorbed. This undigested fat is then eliminated in your bowel movements. Use Xenical together with a reduced-calorie diet. The weight management effects of Xenical continue only as long as you are taking it.

How Xenical Is Taken

Xenical comes in a capsule to take it orally. Xenical is usually taken tree times a day with food. Take Xenical exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of Xenical or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor. Xenical should be given with meals. A diet consisting of daily intake of fat (30% of total calories), carbohydrates, and protein should be distributed evenly over 3 main meals.

Warnings/Precautions on Xenical

Do not take Xenical without first talking to your doctor if you have a chronic malabsorption syndrome, or gallbladder problems. You may not be able to take Xenical if you have any of the conditions listed above. Before taking Xenical, talk to your doctor if you have a history of kidney stones, have diabetes, have anorexia or bulimia, take any other weight-loss medicine, or take cyclosporine. You may not be able to take Xenical, or you may require a dosage adjustment or special monitoring during your treatment if you have any of the conditions listed above. Xenical is in the FDA pregnancy category B. This means that it is not expected to harm an unborn baby. Do not take Xenical without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant. It is not known whether Xenical passes into breast milk. Do not take Xenical without first talking to your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.

Xenical Missed Dose

If you miss a dose resume taking Xenical at the next meal. Do not try to make up the loss with a double dose. The extra drug will not help.

Xenical Possible Side Effects

Stop taking Xenical and seek emergency medical attention if you experience a rare allergic reaction including shortness of breath; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives. Other, less serious side effects are more likely to occur. Continue to take Xenical and talk to your doctor if you experience oily spotting, gas with discharge, an urgent need to go to the bathroom, oily or fatty stools, an oily discharge, an increased number of bowel movements, an inability to control bowel movements, or orange or brown colored oil in your stool. The bowel changes listed above are a natural effect of blocking fat and indicate that Xenical is working. They generally occur early in treatment, particularly after meals containing higher amounts of fat than are recommended. These symptoms are usually temporary and lessen or disappear as you continue treatment and keep to your recommended diet of meals containing 30% fat. Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome.

Xenical Storage

Store this medication at room temperature and out of the reach of children. Protect from moisture. Keep container tightly closed. Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date.

Xenical Overdose

Seek emergency medical attention. Symptoms of a Xenical overdose are not known.

More Information on Xenical

Xenical may decrease your body’s absorption of some fat-soluble vitamins. To ensure adequate nutrition, your doctor may recommend taking a multivitamin that contain vitamins D, E, K, and beta-carotene. Take your vitamin supplement once a day, at least 2 hours before or after a dose of Xenical. Each time you take Xenical, your meal should contain no more than about 30% of calories from fat. Evenly divide your daily intake of fat, carbohydrates, and protein over three main meals a day. Talk to your doctor about following a healthy eating plan.

Generic name of Hoodia Patch — Appetite Suppress Patch

Hoodia Gordonii is an all-natural appetite suppressant, which has no known adverse side-effects. As a traditional food of the San people for over 100,000 years, Hoodia has a long history of helping control hunger and thirst in the harsh desert environment. Only recently has science begun to uncover the amazing effects this amazing plant has on the human body.

South African Hoodia Gordonii is quickly becoming the most sought after (and talked about) supplement of the decade! This succulent botanical, which occurs naturally in the Kalahari Desert of Africa, possesses the unique ability to stave off hunger safely and naturally.

Though available in some specialty stores, Hoodia Gordonii was relatively unknown until major drug companies rediscovered the unique properties the Bushmen knew it possessed. The African Bushmen (also known as the San tribe) have used Hoodia Gordonii for thousands of years, primarily to prevent hunger and maintain energy as they make their way across the vast desert in search of food. By ingesting this plant, they can control their appetites for a 24-hour period. Since its discovery by the rest of the world, thanks to widely broadcasted media reports, Hoodia Gordonii is gaining the reputation as the “greatest appetite suppressant of all time.”

Generic name of Hoodia Gordonii — Weight Loss Pills

What is Hoodia Gordonii?

This cactus-like plant contains substances that may exert dramatic control over hunger, appetite, and thirst. Although the Hoodia gordonii plant looks like a cactus, it belongs to a category of plants called succulents. The use of Hoodia as an appetite suppressant is supported by both colorful folklore history and recent scientific studies. Hoodia is well known to the San bushmen of South Africa , who learned from the teachings of their ancestors to eat this plant to reduce hunger sensations. The San bushmen of South Africa believe that Hoodia is their food, water, and medicine.

How is Hoodia To Be Used?

The traditional use of Hoodia gordonii for its appetite suppressant effect involved the eating of whole, fresh plants or perhaps dried plants. Flowers, roots, and spiky skin on the plant were not eaten readily by anyone, including the hardy San bushmen. The natural use of Hoodia involved cutting open the skin, and eating or drinking the flesh and sap of the plant. In fact, several TV correspondents have taken the plant in this traditional form. These newscasters, along with others, comment upon its bitterness, and almost immediate effects on appetite suppression. It is clear that Hoodia gordonii cannot be taken in this fresh form by many consumers. Therefore, the Hoodia plant in South Africa has been processed by drying the plant and producing powder or concentrates that can be used in dietary supplements, or perhaps added to food.

Common uses

This medicine is a smoking cessation aid used to help you stop smoking.

Before using

Warning: this medicine may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts and behaviors in children and adolescents who have severe depression or certain other mental or mood disorders. Children and adolescents who take this medicine should be monitored daily for any worsening of their condition, thoughts of hurting themselves, or any other sudden or unusual changes in mood or behavior, especially during the first few months after starting this medicine and after any change in the dose of this medicine. If any of these serious side effects occur, contact the doctor immediately.

Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. Inform your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. Do not use this medicine if you are already taking bupropion to treat depression, taking a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI), or thioridazine. Additional monitoring of your dose or condition may be needed if you are taking antidepressants or psychiatric medicines, certain high blood pressure medicines (e.g., "beta-blockers"), certain heart medicines (e.g., propafenone, flecainide), warfarin, decongestants, diabetes medicine, diet pills, levodopa, HIV protease inhibitors (e.g., ritonavir), quinolone antibiotics (e.g., ciprofloxacin, ofloxacin), seizure medicines, tranquilizers, tramadol, narcotic pain relievers (e.g., acetaminophen with codeine), other products containing nicotine (e.g., patches or gum).

Also report the use of drugs which might increase seizure risk (decrease seizure threshold) when combined with bupropion such as phenothiazines (e.g., thioridazine), tricyclic antidepressants (e.g., amitriptyline), isoniazid (INH), or theophylline among others. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for details. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions including any mental or mood disorders (such as bipolar disorder), kidney disease, liver disease, diabetes, head injury, tumors (e.g., brain or spinal cord), history of drug or alcohol addiction, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding.

Do not use this medicine if you have a history of eating disorders (e.g., anorexia, bulimia). Use of this medicine is not recommended if you have a history of seizures, or muscle or nerve conditions. Discuss the use of alcohol with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about using this medicine.

Directions

Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. This medicine comes with a medication guide and a patient information leaflet. Read them carefully. Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist any questions that you may have about this medicine. Swallow whole. Do not break, crush, or chew before swallowing. If you are taking more than 1 dose each day, allow at least 8 hours between doses.

Store this medicine at room temperature, away from heat and light. If you miss a dose of this medicine, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

Cautions

It takes 1 week for this medicine to work. Do not stop taking this medicine without checking with your doctor. During the first week of taking this medicine you should continue to smoke. You should plan to stop smoking during the second week of taking this medicine.

Additional monitoring of your condition is recommended at the start of treatment with this medicine and whenever a change to your dose is made. If you experience anxiety, agitation, panic attacks, difficulty sleeping, irritability, hostility, impulsive feelings, severe restlessness, or feelings of depression, contact your doctor as soon as possible. These may be signs that your treatment with this medicine should be re-evaluated. If you are a parent or caregiver of a patient that is taking this medicine, it is important for you to watch for these symptoms daily. Contact the doctor immediately if any of these symptoms occur. Contact your doctor for more information.

This medicine may cause dizziness. Do not drive, operate machinery, or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how you react to this medicine. Using this medicine alone, with other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or to perform other potentially dangerous tasks. Do not exceed the recommended dose of bupropion; doing so will increase your risk of having a seizure. Limit or avoid consumption of alcoholic beverages; alcohol can increase your risk of seizures. Chronic alcohol users who suddenly stop the intake of alcohol while taking this medicine may increase the risk of having seizures. Before you begin taking any new medicine, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist.<
